I have been reading a little about the unique area of London known as 'the city' or 'the square mile' that has an antiquated system of local government and its own police force. Many who look into it conclude that it is a form of state-within-a-state, which has implications for the role of the financial services industry which operates there - implications both for the UK and the world. Of course most people simply haven't had this strange state of affairs brought to their attention..... I recommend the wiki page: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporation_of_Londonand the article by George Monbiot: www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/oct/31/corporation-london-city-medievalA reform campaign has sprung out of the Occupy London events: cityreform.org.uk/
